Vintage train run
The historical M1-M6-M8 train used on the Gran Metro woke from its hibernation in spring 2010 for a journey along Line 2 between Paz and Sagrada Familia, as part of the TMB Culture project.
Since then, TMB and the TMB Foundation have organised some trips on one of the original trains that ran on 30 December 1924, when the Gran Metropolità de Barcelona opened between Lesseps and Catalunya, the first metro line in the city and the precursor of today’s Line 3. This train was in service for more than 60 years, until the end of 1987, when it was withdrawn.
These journeys into the past on this beautifully conserved 300 series train took place at night, on Line 2, and were dramatised by actors in the roles of the drivers and ticket inspectors of the time. All of the editions held so far have been accompanied by parallel activities which have given added value to the event: an exhibition of Art Nouveau paintings, an exhibition of items forming part of TMB’s heritage, musical performances and other surprises for those attending.
