Come and play the piano at Diagonal!

A pilot project to install a piano permanently and bring music closer to users.

When: From 23.03.2025

Where: Diagonal Station (L5)

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), through its Foundation, has once again collaborated with the prestigious Maria Canals International Piano Competition, which took place from March 23 to April 3.

This edition celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Maria Canals Competition, under the title Maria Canals, a competition with soul, and the Centenary of the Metro.

At the Mercè Sala Space, two pianos were placed: a grand piano, like the one installed in previous years, which was available for 15 days for the public, choirs, and music schools, and a second upright piano, installed with the intention of remaining there permanently.

A three-month pilot project to bring music closer to all users

Taking advantage of both celebrations, the two organizations began the experience of leaving a piano permanently installed at the Diagonal L5 station.

The piano invites passengers to take on the challenge of sitting down and playing its keys. If the initiative is evaluated positively, the plan is for the upright piano to remain permanently on the network, so that anyone who wants to can play it.

For now, it is a pilot project aimed at improving the travel experience. We hope that the results will be positive, and that we can enjoy musical performances at the metro piano for a long time.
