“Get moving for older people” was the project chosen by TMB’s employees as their charitable cause for 2013. The aim was to raise awareness of the problems faced by the elderly, in particular loneliness and social marginalisation. Three well-known Catalan artists gave the campaign their support: Peret, Núria Feliu and Montserrat Carulla.

Collaborating organisations

This was a joint project undertaken with three organisations involved in providing support for older people:

Amics de la Gent Gran: works to combat loneliness and social marginalisation of older people through volunteers who keep senior citizens company, and to raise awareness amongst the general public.
Avismón-Catalunya: its purpose is to alleviate the loneliness of older people who do not live with family and to ensure that all their needs are met.
The Metro and Bus retired employees associations were also directly involved with the cause of the solidarity campaign, given their unquestionable knowledge and experience in the company.

October: active ageing, positive ageing

Tuesday 1 October, Universitat station (line 2)

Event to launch the campaign, attended by the company’s senior management and Barcelona City Council’s commissioner for the elderly, as well as representatives of the partner organisations. The event was also attended by the public figures supporting the campaign: Peret, Núria Feliu and Montserrat Carulla.

Saturday 5 October, Sants neighbourhood

TMB took part in the official parade to celebrate International Day of Older Persons. The company provided a single decker tourist bus on which Peret and Núria Feliu performed.

Tuesday 8 October, Universitat station (line 2)

Ballroom dancing workshop as part of the “At home with TMB” programme. Led by volunteers from Avismón Catalunya. Older people mingled with young people (pupils from schools contacted by the organisations or by TMB Education) in an event designed to transfer knowledge between generations.

Thursday 10 October, La Sagrera station (lines 9 and 10)

Board games workshop as part of the “At home with TMB” programme, led by volunteers and with the participation of year 6 pupils from the Les Acàcies Primary School.

Saturday 26 October, Carretera de les Aigües de Collserola

Intergenerational walk organised by TMB’s hiking group:an easy walk allowing young and old to share experiences while getting some exercise together.

Novembre: gent gran i mobilitat

Tuesday 5 November, Espai Gaudí

Presentation of the TMB Education activity “Get moving for older people”, giving practical tips on using public transport.

Tuesday 19 November, Espai Gaudí

A stroll through the history of public transport, with a video on the history of the metro and bus and a discussion with the attendees to exchange stories, opinions and comments.
